Hi everyone, Carnivale Mijnoon is going to host another Hafla: Saturday, May 10th, 2008
Please come and spend the day with us or just come for the performance and hafla in the evening where we will have live musicians and guest performers. All are welcome!
2:30- 20 minute warm-up/stretch
3:00- 4:00 – "Drum for Dancers". Rune has taken the most common beats with some of their variations as well as some of the more unusual beats, to make a workshop that will help dancers learn what the beats are called and what they sound like. Elysia will then discuss and show you which steps can work with the rhythms and then practice dancing them. Rune has made a CD with the rhythms on it so you will have something to practice with at home! We are going to finish the rhythms we did not get to at the last hafla and revisit any of the ones you would like to go over again. ***CD is $5; please order ahead to ensure you have a copy if you want one!
4:10- 5:10 –"Beginning Arabic Drumming and Rhythm". Beginning Drummers, this workshop is for you. Rune is an excellent teacher for those drummers just starting out, or those who have had some experience. You may order the CD also if you wish.
4:10- 5:10- “Work your skirt”. Krisztina of Czigany Dance Company is going to demonstrate the beautiful, seductive skirt techniques that we all admired at the last hafla. ***Bring a skirt, but if you don’t have one, don’t worry, we have a few extra and you may borrow one for the class.

5:20- 6:20 - "Intermediate Arabic Drumming Techniques”. In this workshop, Rune will demonstrate intermediate techniques and how to integrate them into common rhythms.
5:20- 6:20 –“Swirling Silken Veils”. We had many requests to revisit the beginning Veil techniques workshop and this time a short choreography will also be taught. We will do a double veil workshop at the next hafla. *** We have some veils available to borrow, so please don't buy a veil just for this workshop, you may change your mind about what veil works best for you after taking the workshop.
7:00 –Performance and Hafla
Hafla to be started after the Performances are done and runs until 11:00 pm.
Musicians and drummers welcome, there will be live music.
The workshops cost $10 for one workshop or $18 for two or $25 for three.
The Performance/Hafla is a $5 donation and it is pot luck so bring your favorite dish (it does not have to be 'Arabic' food!) for your friends to try.
